Anyone know what became of the Boeing/Vertol YUH-61A which was beaten by the Sikorsky YUH-60A for the Black Hawk contract?
I was plowing through an old (March 1973) issue of AIR ENTHUSIAST and found a blurb on it and the YUH-60.

According to Wiki:
Two of the three aircraft (73-21656 and 73-21658) built are preserved at the United States Army Aviation Museum in Fort Rucker, Alabama.

DANKE` The third airframe was a static test mule and never flew.

A nice looking ship. Based on looks alone I prefered it over the Blackhawk...which to me looks like it has a H-34/S-58 tailboom tacked on the back.

Give me a CH-46 They can carry more and sit in a perfect hover with a 40 knot cross wind. A 60 can't

Yep, and then spontaneously catch on fire and crash from that perfect hover at any given moment. There's a reason the Marine Corps wants rid of their Frogs at any cost.

YEP! and making great progress since the PHROG's only been in service for coming up on 50 years in a couple of months

Yep, and that's why they're now death traps and need to be gotten rid of.
TBH, the Marines have tried to replace the french 4 or 5 times in the past, but being the child of the Navy, they never really got it even though they needed it. There's a new V-22 book out (can't remember the name of it right now) that talks about some of the history of the USMC's troubles replacing the CH-46 and how hard they had to fight to get the V-22.
