Air Force Museum Dayton Ohio

Thu Feb 23, 2012 3:14 pm

My 80 year old father who now lives in Dayton OH. suffered hart failure in January. Thankfully he recovered, but my two boys and I packed up the car and drove down there to see him. While we were there I insisted on taking the boys to see the AF museum. Was that great. I only wish we had more time and stamina! My favorite were the A20, the Dolittle raider and Lady be Good displays. Loved it and dad is doing much better

Welcome to WIX Wesley, and glad to hear that your Dad is doing better.

I travel quite a bit in Europe and the US, and have visited many, many aircraft museums on my travels, so it takes a lot to impress me these days. I visited the NMUSAF back in 2007 during the GML week at Columbus, and was HUGELY impressed. A really great collection, housed indoors, with a fantastic selection of aircraft and interesting accompanying displays. And if they can't get an example of a significant type (like the P-26 Peashooter) they just go ahread and build one!

For all the p1ssing and moaning about certain aspects of the NMUSAF (the CAF F-82 fiasco comes to mind) it truly is a world-class collection in an historic location.

And a great place to volunteer ... I'll be there tomorrow AM for my weekly Friday shift. ... an honor and a privilege for this 80 year old vet.
