I often pondered about making a site dedicated to the aircraft used in movies. Assuming I cloned myself and had about 10 hours a day of extra free time of course. Then on a whim I searched, figuring somebody had to have some sort of list at least, and found this

No it doesn't seem to identify individual planes, but its a wiki and I'm sure that could be rectified

That site needs a LOT of help since under 'unknowns' they show DREADNAUGHT and FURIAS and want them identified along with PT-22's, AVRO ANSONS, MOONEYS, and bunches of 30's backyard one only nutballs. Who's doing their Aircraft I.D.'s, the kids in a 3rd grade class?
In the first photo they can't identify a LEAR 24?

It tries to but the contributors don't seem to be too knowledgeable (ie. not WIXers) .

It's probably a bunch of individuals coming from the movie side of the field, not the aircraft side of things.

It's probably a bunch of individuals coming from the movie side of the field, not the aircraft side of things.

Perhaps someone in a position of responsibility should contact them and suggest they tune in to WRG Registry and WIX and virtual airplane museums site too

I contribute a fair amount to the Movie Car database, I looked at the plane version once and was so astounded by the errors, I couldn't bear to go back.

I do ID planes put on the car version, and those are usually transferred to the plane database.

I submitted a lot of info a while ago on their "unknown" aircraft as much as I could, but there's a LOT of information. I think it's a great idea and it would be nice if we could identify them by tail number as much as possible since some aircraft tend to have "recurring roles".

During one of the attack sequences on the movie "For Whom the Bells Toll" there is a flight of Republican aircraft. Three of them, all wearing dark cammo, two biplanes and one low-wing, radial engine airplane. Does anyone know the airplanes involved?

Another site that lists military aviation movies. It does not list individual aircraft but types in movies.

OK, this is one of them "it is easier to ask, than to investigate" questions of mine

During one of the attack sequences on the movie "For Whom the Bells Toll" there is a flight of Republican aircraft. Three of them, all wearing dark cammo, two biplanes and one low-wing, radial engine airplane. Does anyone know the airplanes involved?

I think they were models representing Polikarpov I-15s and I-16s. Paul Mantz was a stunt pilot in the film so if that particular sequence was real then I don't recognize the types except they weren't I-15 and I-16.

If it was a real aircraft in For Whom the Bells Toll....My guesses are:

Lockheed Orion (Mantz had one)

Ryan SCW (used to protray fixed gear Japanese aircraft in Wake Island)

The biplanes...anyone's guess. But it's it not a Travel Air or any of the usual suspects, I usually guess WACO.
