Older photo of F9F Cougar now on USS Intrepid.

On July 7th., 1989 I took this photo of a Cougar stored alongside U.S.S. Intrepid.
I wondered what happened to it and today I saw in an aviation magazine that it has recently been placed on display onboard Intrepid with the Bureau # 141117.

Wow it has come a very long way. The Intrepid posted a good number of photos on their facebook page while it was being restored.

There used to be a Cougar in Pioneer Park, Mesa, AZ, across the street from the Mormon temple. Does anyone know what became of it?

Very intresting photo.

I´ve visited the Intrepid twice .
Once in 1998 and again in 2009.

On both occasions the Cougar was still under restoration.

My 2009 photo is avail on Yahoo

I was just thinking about this aircraft after reading the recent thread on playground aircraft yesterday. I found this post while searching.

The aircraft at Pioneer Park was an F9F-5 Panther BuNo: 125316. I used to play on it when I was a kid back in the 80's.

According to this, that aircraft is now onboard the HORNET museum at Alameda:

This plane belongs on the playground thread since it once was at the Airplane park in Wall Township NJ. Myself and many of my peers spent hours in an around it. To have the honor of seeing it unveiled on the Intrepid was something else! I never thought as it was getting more run done it would ever find such glory again.
