Pearl Harbor relic sought to answer history question

Thu Aug 04, 2005 10:54 am

We know that Fusata Iida was leader of the Soryu Zero Buntai in the second wave. A tiny splash of ROYAL blue was found on a relic from the tail section.

Iyozo Fujita took over the reins of Iida's unit upon his death at Pearl Harbor. In Borneo, in early 1942, we know that Fujita received a NEW Zero coded BI-151 which had MEDIUM BLUE command stripes: http://groups.msn.com/japanesemodelaircraft/replicajan1990.msnw?action=ShowPhoto&PhotoID=71

Was Iida flying BI-151 when he died at Pearl Harbor? What was his tail code anyway?

The search continues for the answer. You may know a veteran from Kaneohe NAS which MAY have a piece of the answer. History seeks an answer. Please send possible veteran addresses to: PearlHarborHistory (at) Hotmail (dot) com

Here is the most current information from Japan, albeit the tail code is a GUESS:
