Sorry to hear about the crew on Tanker 11. My condolences to the families of those brave pilots.

Rough day for tankers. They are still working to remove Tanker 55 from the runway at Minden NV. Reports are that the left gear failed to extend. Thank goodness the crew is unhurt. I couldn't see the extent of damage although the left prop looked curled. The right gear looked extended so hopefully the left jet nacelle prevented too much damage.

Blue skies to the crew....
Dang.

Also yesterday another P-2V had a gear problem and made a partial gear up landing on Nevada.

Safety stand down has already begun on all fed tankers, regardless of type. Includes SEATs and T-40 (BAe-146).

For these peculiar missions, these aircrafts should be fitted with ejection seats.
Yes, Bronco-like. Always nice to have a second option.

I bet that would cost as much or more than the aircraft themselves.

The ejection seats wouldn't have mattered... They would have burned to death. Same in any other airplane.

Most of the aircraft fighting the fires are at least 40 years old. Condolences to the family and friends of the crew :(

One of the Pilots is my neighbor and lives across the street. He left behind a wife and three kids......... Very sad indeed.

Blue Skies Todd,

So are most warbirds, a good percentage of GA aircraft, all antiques, and a fair proportion of active military aircraft.
Age in of itself is not the problem.

Looks like a darn good landing all things considered...that crosswind looks pretty stiff.
