Wow! What a window into time!! WESTERN AIRLINES Maintenance hanger next to UNITED, a big neon sign for the home of the XB-70, What became of those B-17's in the distance behind the taxiing P-26?. Might have been better to not use a Briggs & Stratton on nitro as a sound effect-but neato!!

Obviously a mashup of several occasions, as shown by the 3 different paint jobs on the Ki-84 (Frank) and the before/after shots of the P-12/F4B.

I understand that Bud Mahurin flew the Frank in those days. Anyone recognize if it's him?

That's Spam Can doing the amazing landing. Looks like the doghouse didn't even hit the ground, and there was barely even a prop strike. I think it was actually rolling on the partly-down wheels.

Going to watch it again now!

The natural aluminum aircraft that was hand cranked is the Seversky 2PA/AT-12 Guardsman.

The Ki-84 Frank appears both with and without paint. I'm guessing the stripped version was just post restoration to fly.
I believe it was painted for a roll in the movie "Never So Few". http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0053108/
In the Air Museums "Aero Series" of books I believe the last page in the F4U Corsair book has a photo of the Ki-84 & F4U together with a blurb about the movie.

As I recall from an old Air Classics article Mr. Mahurin also was the test pilot for the Peashooter. I'd love to know more about all the folks in this video.

Don't know how amazing it was.
Pilot was Frank Compton. I believe he was/had been a NAA test pilot.
He didn't get the gear handle all the way down into the detent stop. Pilot error would be the cause. Luck prevented more damage from being done.
Air Research did the restoration of the Frank and also the P-26 IIRC. Aircraft were all of 20 years old at the time.
I am amazed how many suits are out on the flight line. Must be an early division of MIB.

Agreed: best video link of 2012. As a fan of Japanese warbirds, seeing the Ki-84 airborne is priceless stuff.

The MIB presence is certainly "frosting on the cake".

This made my day! The old Glenview tail V on the Helldiver and the Bearcat... can't believe the AT-10 got scrapped; anyone know why? The Photobucket link was from someone who was putting the cars on the Internet Movie Car Database; I asked him to post the image. Also interesting to see the O-47 between movie roles (Wreck of the Mary Deare from '59 and Flight of the Phoenix from '65).
