Say NOT his name or CY will sue you

Wed Jun 13, 2012 6:26 am

CY won one against ATT .... $135k. Plus a list of some of his other targets. Once you deduct attorney fees (assuming they werent additional) he gets about nothing (I need to look this one up)...

Tw*t

edit: If you can't use his name, why not scrap his name from history books and replace it with the real deal: George Welch! CY wasn't the first!

I can't speak to the specifics of the California law, but I'd sure think that a truthful and accurate quote reflecting an historic achievement would be dramatically different from claiming an untruth like 'CY uses our Mach 1 phone to remind himself of his historic achievement'.

Having said that, perhaps that's why the award was so low.

I was thinking the same thing about George Welch...so be it, we dare not speak his name, "jerk it out' of the public culture. I'll dance to that.... :D

It is a shame that in the twilight years of his life people are remembering him more and more for his bitter and prickly attiude and less for his achievements.
I would love to blame his attitude on old age but I remember seeing his many years ago and he was the same then.
Really wish he took a look at the way Bud Anderson and Bob Hoover conduct themselves.....real gentlemen and humble heros

Maybe some of the Reno Race Pilots that were slammed in his Flight Journal editorial piece should band together and get a lawyer too...

I usually find myself on on the other side of CY arguments, but this one seems pretty silly.

I'm not an expert but I know CA law gives more protection to celebs because of their large population in the state.

George welch should be in the books for doing it first and also his performance at pearl harbor. Heck of a man.

I live near where CY was born and have crossed paths with him many times. He rates next to my XWife in people I don't like.

He was in the right place at the right time more than the right stuff. He may have had superior flying skills but he wasn't book smart enough to be a test pilot in the 50s. Definately not astronaut material. So Under the "Peter Principle" he rose well past his own level of competence.

Hoover was the real man. If Hoover wasn't a gentlemen he should have said CY broke his arm. I'll fly it. Amazingly I think just about every (there has to be one exception but I can't remember it ). WWII pilot I've met was cool and gentlemanly except CY.

George Welch is an American hero. I will never dispute that. But I will never agree about the soundbarrier. There is more proof he didn't do it, than there is that he did. His own engineers have stepped forward saying that he did not do it. Also the standing rule for everyone was without the NACA equipment, there would be no credit given. Even if we don't like a man, we can't take away what he has done. I have met and talked with CY many times, and always been treated really nice. SO I can't say anything there. But I will say all he ever says about the X-1 flight is that it was their duty to break the sound barrier, and that he was in the right place at the right time. I don't agree with this thing, but then again I also hate AT&T.

If we all just look down the road say, 100 years from now when historians go looking for his grave and are unable to find it because he threatened in his Will to sue if his name was engraved without his permission    He is in the same category as GB was, professional jerk.
Here's a point to ponder next time you've got a few 'do nothin' minutes, contemplate what his 'I love me' wall must look like

I firmly count myself in the ever-growing group who strongly believes CY is a world-class feminine hygiene product. HOWEVER, as much as it pains me to say this, I have to side with him on this one. This is the money line right here:

"According to court documents, Mark Siegel, AT&T Mobility's executive director of media relations, said he used Yeager's name "to create positive associations in people's mind with the AT&T brand so they would think highly of the company."

You can call the AT&T guy hero or individual of questionable judgement for admitting it, but whatever the case, the fact is that the company used CY's name to embellish their own image without permission or compensation, and that's bullshizzle.
