Anybody had luck getting one of these to work with modern radios? Do they block engine and wind noise? Do you need extra hand to hold them firmly to your throat whenh using?

Once when watching the TV series 12 O'Clock High, with my father, a wartime B-17 pilot, I asked about the throat mics.
He said they didn't work very well even when new...

Obviously throat mics have come a long way since WW2, I've used a Racal RA-440 for film work, but I don't think you can get them any more. It worked pretty well, about as good as a normal boom mic. If you google around throat mics seem to be popular for the special forces crowd (or at least the wannabes? Don't think Seals buy stuff on eBay....), I would think that a modern throat mic should work well in an aircraft application if it can be adapted to the aircraft system.
