Help Needed...P-40 Updates for Oz and NZ!

Mon Aug 22, 2005 5:47 pm

:D Over on the Flypast board, Setter had given an update of Murray's Wangaratta facility (wow!), so that has set me to task to sort out and attempt to id the sn's of the P-40's there, plus the new wings for other owners....... So, Mick or Setter or anyone else that is at liberty to speak...please do so..... Any updates on P-40's wherever, including here in the states.......... Hake, Rangel, Prevost, Walton...etc.... TIA

Hi Alan

Sorry

Not been on here for a few days so I didn't see the post - There are 4 P40s at Wang that I know of

Murray's flying P40N - 5 - CU USAAC 42-105915

Murrays Restored Fuselage P40E 41-35984 RAAF A29-113

Gus Larards P40N- 5 (Fuselage just about finished) (Gus often Flies the P40N of Murray above ) USAAC 42-104986

North Queensland Warbirds P40N (Fuselage now shipped up north, being fitted out. Wings will be built by Murray shortly).

More could be done but thats the current total.

Another fuselage was done for Alan Arthur and that is in NZ being finished off by the end of the year.

Murray is also building the wings for the RAAFM P40 project (in the Jig now) A project I can't talk about and a "spare" set.

The Old Aeroplane Company's P-40F is a couple years away.
The bulk of it is there but all the systems are yet to be fited out, (eg. hydrolics, electical, flight controls, radios, prop, coolant, oil,.....)

Hi Eric

I am hoping it is a bit closer than that- I would have thought six months would button it off.

Murry's New builds

Tue Aug 23, 2005 7:41 am

Howdy

John forgot to mention the North Queensland Warbirds Association new build P-40N-5-CU, has the identity S/N.42-104977.

Murray also has the remains of the ex Bob Jarrett P-40N-5-CU,
S/N.42-104947.
( This aircraft was originally assigned to the 8th FS/49th FG -
Pilot : Capt.Ernest A.Harris as # 67 and named "The CAROLINA BELLE".)
This P-40N was obtained off Bob Jarrett/Classic Jets Fighter Museum.

Pioneer Aero Restorations in New Zealand, are rectifying Alan Arthur's P-40N-1-CU project to an Airworthy status.

Keep em flying

Yea what happened to Mr. Orphan's P-40N? (I think it was 42-104818). I had e-mailed a little with him a few years back about that project, so I was pretty surprised to see recently in CW he said he had a P-40K. Does he now have two P-40 projects or did one go down the line?

Jim

P.S.: Thanks for the update on 42-105844. I was wondering what the status of it was.

Jim

The N was sold to the US, he now has the sad remains of a K

Hi Dave

So who did the N model go to and how bad is the K and where did it come from . I understand if it can't be talked of but it would tidy up some lists I have if I knew

Will this help?

Also, Ron Fagen's K should be close to first flight. I'm not only looking forward to that, but next in line for rebuild is the P-38.
