C-119 Radio Installation

Mon Oct 08, 2012 2:54 pm

Hello --

I'd like to see a photo of the radio installation (ART-13, BC-348) on a C-119.

Based upon Charles Lunsford's book "Departure Message", I'm pretty sure it was on the flight deck behind the copilot.

I've found only one photo on the web, and it appears to be from one of the attack variants of the C-119 but the radios do not appear to be on the flight deck.

Thanks!

Mark

Judging by a (very small) Flight handbook drawing that is reprinted in "Fairchild C-82 Packet and C-119 Flying Boxcar" by Alwyn T. Lloyd...that's correct...the table is behind the co-pilot.
The radios themselves appear to be above the ceiling of the cargo compartment just aft of the cockpit bulkhead.

Sorry, no photos.

Good Morning and thanks for your reply.

Would you be able to scan that drawing for me? I'm very interested to see the details of the installation and also to see if there were any ARC-5 units installed.

I was going to email Charles Lunsford, but was saddened to see he recently passed away on Sept 21, 2012:

Thank you

I don't think would scan well, it's a very general arrangemet drawing, it doesn't say what radio is where..just .."radios" pointing to a general area.
Its in the same area as auto pilot and and other stuff....doesn't like like it would be fun to service.

I can image the toils of some poor draftee mechanic freezing in Korea or baking in the desert.
