Important Tip

If you're developing or have a website about airplanes, please, please, please, please, Don't, have a big engine sound come out of the site when entering the page, please don't have any involuntary sounds on your site. I like Merlins and flyby's and all of that, but you're making it hard to surf at work. Everytime that happens, I gotta say the radio acted up, My computer locked up, I don't know, did you hear that too? Unfortunately, databases and servers don't sound like engines...

Hit the stop button (which is either on your keyboard and is the circle with the x at the top of your browser) and the sound will stop. If you time it right you may get the sound to not launch at all.

WOW, you have a sound card and speakers at work. I wish I did  My last job I had a really nice laptop and I can't agree with you more! That drove me up the wall. I will second that! just in case someday I get another sound card at work.

In IE 6, go to Tools > Internet Options > Advanced > scroll down to MultiMedia and find the check box "play sounds in web pages"

Uncheck the box and this will disable sounds at the page load.
