Any new Luftwaffe Flyers besides the 190/109's

Fri Oct 12, 2012 5:53 pm

Are there any serious projects to get a Ju-88, HE-111 (or CASA 2.111) or a JU-86 / Stuka back in the air in the foreseeable future?

Well... there are the Me-262 and Fw-189 that Paul Allen has. He has a CASA 2.111 project as well, but I don't think anything serious has happened with its restoration yet.

I believe there is a Ju-87 Stuka under rebuild to fly, but it looks like a pipe dream project to me. Several Ju-88's are under rebuild, but I think all are to static condition. There is only one complete Ju-86 in the world, and that's in a Swedish museum, so I doubt you'll see that rebuilt to fly. There are of course several Fw-44 biplane trainers flying, and I imagine some that are being rebuilt to fly as we speak. One cool project being built for the air is the reconstruction of an interwar Heinkel He-51 biplane fighter. Mostly it will be replica, but it does have an original engine, and will be a beauty when it's done.

Cheers,
Richard

A friend of a friend of mine has an Arado Ar 68 project. As you can imagine, he is looking for parts.

And where has that been hiding? Ex-Spanish?

Has he contacted the Sola Musuem who are nearing completion of their example?

Any BF-110 Projects? 6200 Built 3 know to exist...

ME 410? They built close to 1200 of them...

Turkish FW-190's? Did they all end up in the dump? or Scrapped?

1. I would say four. Two in National Museums. Two projects not currently being worked on

2. Two survivors known-both in National Musuems.

3. Scrapped AFAIK.

Dave,
Nice story about Col San Martin and 609!
Are the 110's potential flyers?

Thanks

Unless you had the financial backing of some one like Paul Allen, I would say No.

You sure Sola has an Ar 68? Their site lists an Ar 66, very different from a 68.

I would love to see a Stuka fly, I imagine a single-engine type would be easier(?) to restore/reproduce than a twin. I remember reading Flying Heritage Collection has one, and Jerry Yagen said he'd like one but didn't think it would have the same appeal as a Mosquito.

It's still sad how the CAF's HE-111 crashed. I loved seeing that thing fly, a lot of early teenage memories.

Likewise. A very sad loss indeed. Got to see her once.
