Anyone seen two Canberras?

Wed Nov 07, 2012 4:37 pm

The revived thread mentioning Hueys and a Canberra in Fliorida prompts me to as if anyone has seen a couple of aircraft that belong to a local firm.

According to current FAA records, N30UP and N40UP belong to a local high altitude mappping company.
I don't know where they are, but I've never seen them at any airports in this area.

I have a hunch they're resting somewhere, rather ike the Canberra in the other posty and the one that was parked at the CAF hangar in Mesa several yaers back (I wonder if like many homeless MiGs, people boughtthem only to be confronted with the realities of owning an exotic airframe, so they're just parked somewhere).

Hi ,I can't remember where they were based now,but I believe that the company went bust and the liquidators were trying to sell them on,not sure if there have been any takers....
As far as I know they are still hangered at their base.

Where was their base? The firm was headquartered in Spokane, butthey could have been based anywhere. If they're in Spokane, they could be at Spokane International (GEG after the old Geiger AFB) ..with the new security rules you can't look around there and I don't think they could operate from Felts Field...but there arer some hangars there that are rarely opened....

Man those have got to be serious fuel hogs. But it sure would be cool to get one on the air show circuit. There are several shows that would pay for them to do at least a static display. And can you imagine a demo profile that included the nuclear "over the shoulder" toss manuver??!! :D I love the RB-57 at Hill AFB museum done up in all black!

No, not really, couldn't remember the name of the airport and was too lazy to look it up. I saw 'em in May, other than a little dust they are in great shape. As I said, they need a good home.....

Too bad the Brit's CAA won't let them fly in the UK....or so I'm guessing. If they were legal, I'd think there would be some flying at home.

Still, with the Vulcan retiring, I'm sure a lot of fans would be willing to throw money at a flying Canberra.

There's a couple of EE Canberras near-airworthy in the UK, but aren't flying because of money required for engines.

There's no reason N30UP and N40UP couln't be flown in the UK as others have, but I don't know there's the case for that, as there are other examples are sitting on the ground in the UK essentially ready to go.

The NASA WB-57s are a very different machine, and has no relevance in the UK or likely support from the CAA to fly there - but that's just a guess.

There's an ex-British built Canberra airworthy in Australia with the Temora Aviation Museum, but not flying at the moment as the museum is rotating their types through downtime.

No problem, I may go have a look-see next time I'm down that way be wouldn't want to if I'm not welcome.

I wish the owner luck but have some doubts about finding a buyer. There's surely no practical use for them and for the airshow circuit/museums I can't see that a Canberra is much of an attraction - a B57 might be a different matter.

As JohnB posted, there's no shortage of Canberras in the UK even if you could find a bunch of nutty Brits with deep pockets.

yes I did, but don't have time right now to process them. The other two are a Grumman Albatross and two Trackers (or Traders).

Finally got a free moment to do this, here's one of the two, as seen last weekend. The other looks the same, just a different tail ##.
