Aircraft type recognition Quiz..........

O.k I don't know the answer to this one........... :oops: ...........

All I know is that the picture was taken in Auckland, New Zealand during a US fleet visit in the late 1920s or early 1930s.

The same aircraft can be seen in the background of this picture............

This one is easy as the type clearly marked on the rudder.

'Tis possibly a Martin T3M-1 or SC-1, I believe they were very similar. It's from a Torpedo unit, so I'd say it's a T3M-1.


The caption for this photo said it's a T3M-1 from VP-3 circa 1932, but the inscription at the bottom of the photo says 'S.C. in flight'...

If you're referring to the horizontal strut, then perhaps you can tell me... why does every photo I've come across which shows that area of a T3M (either -1 or -2) have the strut?
