F1 Flyby?

Sat Nov 17, 2012 10:20 pm

I saw a P-38, P-51 and F-16 fly over my house today. I don't know of any airshows this weekend and thought they might be practicing for a flyby at the F1 race on Sunday. Anybody know what was going on?

They flew over the track a few times at a couple thousand feet altitude, unannounced, so presumably a practice run for Sunday. Appeared to be Glacier Girl and La Pistolera.

And that would depend completely on Bernie who owns F-1 TV as well as the series, that's why Bob, David, and Steve are some times caught out since they are commenting on a satellite feed to report the races and I don't recall ever seeing shots of a flyover on the direct broadcast, they did run footage of an ETHID Scarebus A-340-600 @ I think, Dubai but it came from another source and SPEED used it.

From the Air Force Heritage Flight Foundation Facebook page

"The wait is almost over! We can't wait to kick off the 2012 Formula One Grand Prix with a Heritage Flight TODAY at 1:00 PM CST. The crowd at the new Circuit of The Americas track in Austin, TX is in for a treat! Capt Garrett Dover will be in the F-16, with Dan Friedkin and Tom Gregory (of Lone Star Flight Museum) in P-51 Mustangs on his wing and Steve Hinton (of Planes of Fame Air Museum) in the P-38 Lightning to top it off!"
