Rolls-Royce Kestrels in North America?

Fri Nov 23, 2012 2:51 pm

Hi,

Does anyone know whether or not there is a working R-R Kestrel engine in North America? The only one I know about is the one on the Fury in Gerry Yagen's collection.

Any others? I need to talk to someone who runs one, or has overhauled one. Or has parts or a spare that might be for sale.

Thanks,

Dave

The National Aeronautical Collection in Ottawa have a Hawker Hind that has been ground run (at least). George Neal would be well worth tracking down.

Thanks, Dan. Yes I know about that one -- should have mentioned it. (Actually, we started it last month using a Hucks Starter.) But that one's not the source of new information or bits that I'm looking for.

I might be completely out to lunch on this, but for some reason I'm thinking that there is a Kestrel core in Winnipeg with the WCAM... Been a long time since I was there though.

How about the Antipodes? Potentially active Kestrels down under have probably been gathered by the Demon (Aus) and Hind (NZ) restorations, but it may be worth talking to those teams. You know where I am for more.

I've a vague recollection of a Kestrel survivors discussion on Key Historic, but I may well be misremembering.
