USAAF Stearman serial Q

OK, I've been told there's this 1942 Stearman with a 75-xxxx series serial, and it served with the USAAF. I expected that it would have a 41-xxxx or 42-xxxx serial, but clearly the 75- series for Stearmen isn't unusual. What gives?
