What happened to T6 Texan /Harvard N15795?

Sat Dec 22, 2012 11:45 pm

I was cleaning out my desk today and found this old photo that a friend of mine took of the remains of a T6 Texan that had crashed. I believe he said that this was taken in Conroe, Tx. The N number is N15795. I tried a google search but came up with very little. When did this crash happen and what became of the remains of the plane?

Your Google must be broken, I suggest new batteries.

I found some information on a website called 'WIX', you may have heard of it. :D

So whatever became of the remnants of the plane? If it crashed in Iowa, how did the pieces end up in Conroe, TX? The friend of mine that took the photos was working for a local newspaper at the time and had gone to the airport there to fly with several T6 Texans for a photo shoot to promote the up coming Wings Over Houston Airshow.

Crashed A/C are still someone's property, whether an individual, organization or insurance company.
The insurance Company then will typically auction off the remains after investigations and litigation is complete.

Sometimes the remains can have some useable or repairable parts.
Perhaps someone in Conroe sponsored the A/C and held onto some of the remains or it is likely someone bought or were given some of the remains for the few useable parts.

This airplane was originally operated by my dad and his friend for the CAF. I don't remember the exact date of the crash but I do know that the other owner was flying a routine for tora tora tora when he passed out and dived into the ground. As you could see the plane nor the pilot survived the crash. As for the remains, it was sent back to lone star executive airport in Conroe Texas were it was operated and was eventually scraped for parts.
