NAS Glenview 1967 pics

Pictures my Father took in the summer of 1967 at NAS Glenview. He grew up in a house just outside the base which is what began his interest in aviation. Which in turn led to my interest in aviation.
He was apparently dating an Admirals daughter at the time...

Thanks so much for posting these photos - that's probably the last time that Hellcat flew before it was put out to pasture over at Chicagoland Airport. I'm grateful for any Glenview stuff that comes along!

Very cool to see! I was looking very closely at them to see if I could see my Dad, me, and my two brothers in any of the photos, as we were there! Not in these photos, though. We went to a lot of the NAS Glenview shows in the '60s...sure brings back some great memories. Thanks for posting those shots...made my day!

A walk down memory lane is always cool. Even the cars in the background were fun to look at in their stock trim. I wonder how the Hellcat that was in bare metal is doing today. Does anyone know? Thanks for posting!

"J", I believe that Hellcat is now on display at the Kalamzoo Air Zoo museum. Can anyone confirm that for us?

Another thing I love about those photos is how you can just walk right up and drool on the F-11 Tigers of the Blue Angels back then. Hard to get near their F-18s these days.

Anyone else notice the Lear 23/24 in the background?

Back then "Learjet" was the newest buzzword in aviation...even non-avition peple knew about them.

In 65-66 one (porbably a factory demonstrator from nearby Wichita) showed up at the Richards-Gebaur open house and was a huge hit.
It was nice the open house organizers allowed it...not sure if that would be the case today.

In a similar vein, in 1971-72, A new Northwest Airlines 747 was on display at Fairchild, again a huge hit.

Yup, the Hellcat even has the same rudder gust lock installed at Chicagoland.

That is the Hellcat now at the Airzoo in all its static display glory.

Google the Vulcan and there are a lot of photos of it on an RAF base fire dump . But Blue Angel #1 is supposedly now at Grissom, if the BuNo on that one is correct.

That is pretty cool looking at the old pics. In the mid 90's I used to deploy down there from Traverse City, MI for SAR coverage. When the old USCG Air Station Chicago closed, AIRFAC Glenview opened up in it's place for a few years. I do recall seeing a couple of boxes of old Glenview photo's laying around. I don't know what happened to them.

Great pics! I would have loved to see the Blues when they were flying Grumman Tigers. I got to see them perform in A-4s a couple of times before they went to Hornets (frankly I thought the Scooters were much cooler.)

Apropos of nothing, here are some really poor pics of the Air Zoo Hellcat on it's final flight, October 31st, 2000 (taken from the Ford Tri-Motor.) Barry Smith was in the cockpit. Unfortunately, your stupid photographer left his telephoto lens on the ground!
