I thought just by looking at the photo, that it could be a Potez XXV-A2 Sesquiplane bomber (Guatemala and Uruguay, France and Spain used these bombers during the 1920s - 30s) but it doesn't exactly seem to be one of them.
Henri Guillaumet (sp?) is the character portrayed in the movie, and there is of course, a South American connection here....
I have only found through google, data in French regarding Guillaumet.
