XB-24 'Custom' conversion ...

Thu Apr 04, 2013 10:19 am

Looks like a comfortable idea. WIKI: B-24 39-680 was modified as VIP transport for CAC personnel in 1944; and on 20 June 1946, scrapped at Brookley Field, Mobile, Alabama. Source SDASM archives

That's nothing compared to how Diamond Lil was configured when she first came to the CAF. That was one fancy airplane back then. I wish I had taken pictures of the interior when the Mexicans were still flying it.

Now I wonder as to whether or not pictures exist of the interiors of 'Guess Where II' (used mostly by Ellinore to tour the country), Churchills airplane, or one of the Navy Admirals flying barges.

Now a days, most private jet interiors look like the only thing missing is a guy in a bowler hat playing an upright piano, they all look like the front parlor in a Victorian cathouse. 'and...we'll use scads of rope light and dark brown marble and wood to offset the white rug and beige pleather with 24 k gold trim seats'. :vom: :toimonster: :vom: :toimonster:

Holy cow, that airplane really flew in that configuration? I've never seen those pictures before. Nice airplane.

Where in England was this taken? The giveaways are the British 'Big sedans' and the white painted fender and running board edges something that wasn't done in the U.S., and the left sided 'hacks'.

Maybe I'm missing something, but what's up with the Cyrillic? (I'm going to assume it translates to "America".)

Wow - that is a pretty sweet set up, too bad it did not catch on! There might be more B-24 conversions left! Of course then we'd be ripping out the, "Stupid executive conversions" and trying to get them back to wartime configuration
