These are going to knock your socks off

Well, they knocked mine off at least. Some fantastic wartime (and post war) color images.

Man...you could go cross eyed looking at all those.

I do have one correction to make, however. That's not a '51 Ford. It's either a '52 or a '54. I can't see enough of it to make sure but it's definitely not a '51. Those were my teen age years and cars were the second major attraction.

Biggest diff between 52/53/54 and really 55 was the grill design, the 55 got a bit 'edgier'. I've always wanted a 51 Victoria hardtop, the final, cleaner version of Bob Gergoires design from '49. Long story about the 49 Ford/vs 49 Merc cut short, the Merc as supposed to be the Ford but had too much 'content' so it became the Mercury and Bob Gregoire had just a very few months to design a totally new 'shoebox' '49 Ford. A 49 to 51 LINCOLN CAPRI front clip bolts right up to a 49-51 Merc.(same basic car)

It's for sure a '54. You can see the grille in photo #05320015.

Great photos!
Yep, definetely a '54.
The airplane hood ornament, subtle 'crease' on the side of the headlights and the grille wrapping around the side next to the marker lights give it away.
My Dad has a '54 Meteor (Canadian Ford sold at Mercury dealerships) so I've been able to tell the early 1950's Fords apart since I was about 10! :-)

All the pictures help tell the entire story of this gentleman and his wide ranging travels. I don't know about the rest of you, but I pick up on little crumbs of information on a variety of off the center subjects that may help piece together another mystery later on, it all goes into my 'compost heap of information'.
Last year Mark Allen did a whole series of photo postings revolving around 1930's-1950's cars and airplanes and everyone seemed to like it.

How many of you knew the backstory on the '49 Shoebox Ford/Merc before?

Just FYI, as it was probably not obvious, my statement was offered jokingly and I have no problem with the discussion of vintage autos in the thread. Carry on!
