This is the place where the majority of the warbird (aircraft that have survived military service) discussions will take place. Specialized forums may be added in the new future

pardon the pun but the Washington D.C. council is "throwing around" the idea of changing the name of the Washington Redskins football team to the Washington Redtails in honor of the Tuskegee Airmen of ww 2. currently it is in resolution to create a motion status, due to the current name of the team being deemed politically incorrect & racist by native americans. the Cleveland Indians have been going through the same controversy with the name of their baseball team for many years now as well. I think it's a good idea,

& promotes the warbird / military aviation movement. i'm sure it will be held up in channels with the NFL. as to Cleveland the only thing red about them is their ass since 1948, the last time they won a series.

If it happens, I wonder what the new team mascot will look like.

What's next? getting Dallas to change the name of the Ka Bois? How about 'RedHawks' since I doubt 1 person in 300 even knows the story of the Red Tails and that would get bogged down in regional bickering-

You know, all-kidding aside this Redtails idea is starting to grow on me.

Lemons to lemonade, with the sequester grounding our active military, how about warbird flyovers instead?
I know... it'll never happen

, but how cool would that be?!

1. I'd say no to a name change because it is more PC-ism run amuck. We have too much of that now IMO.
2. If there was a name change it should stay in the original American Indian theme too. Sorry.....I don't think Red Tails is not in keeping with that theme. I Googled this to see where it may head. Some folks of course associate it with the TA. Other's with the Red Tailed Hawk. There is some old indian folk lore of an Eagle and Red Tail. I guess it would depend on who/what agenda would be the most popular?
I personally think the current theme is pretty cool.

If anyone were to look closely, they'd see that it's not American Indians that are the driving force behind the BS to change the name. It's the "limousine liberals"

that have more time on their hands than they know what to do with. The Indians that are involved just latched on because they think they're supposed to. The next thing you know it'll be someone declaring that your house in on a "sacred burial ground" and want you to move. Someone needs to get a life!

ps. REDTAILS??? I think not. What would the uni's look like? Maybe a nice big red circle on the butt.

The local D.C. politicians have done such a good job in the city (Marion Berry for example), I'm sure their meddling could only make things better for the sport.
On the other hand, maybe we should remove all references to Indians wherever we can. They lost the "war," right? Maybe Oshkosh can change its name to "Malia," Oconomowoc will become "Sasha" and Chicago will become "Barack" in honor of all his contributions to that fair city.

The trick is to get as close to the border as you can without stepping over the line.

Time will tell whether I was successful or not.
My point though is that if we were really serious about this, we would expunge all American Indian names and references from our lexicon so that nobody could be offended.

OK...but then, what would you have to say to acknowledge them? NOT "Native Americans". I'm a native American because I was born here. My ancestors came here by boat from England and Ireland in the 1600s. Theirs came on foot over the land bridge from Asia a few years earlier. The difference in time doesn't make them any more "native" than anyone who was born in the USA. (Hey...that sounds like a good title for a song.

)
OK...rant off.
