B-25 44-29507 back in the air in the Netherlands!

Tue May 14, 2013 2:48 am

B-25 s/n 44-29507 "Sarinah", well known as the Duke of Brabant Air Force's Mitchell in the Netherlands, has made her first flight on the Dutch register. Now registered as PH-XXV, the veteran bomber flew on Friday May 10th for the first time since 2009...being the only not US registered airworthy B-25. The Mitchell is now operated by the KLu Historische Vlucht (Royal Netherlands AF Hist Flight) at Gilze-Rijen AFB in the Netherlands after the merger of the DBAF Foundation with the organisation.

I've found one photograph from Jimmy van Drunen. It'll be great to have it back on the European circuit! It joins the bare metal Flying Bulls B-25 as the second of the type in Europe. The Scandinavian A-26 Invader 'Sugarland Express' also flew for the first time in what must be several years last week, further adding to the twin-engine quota.

Well, actually the now PH-XXV registered B-25 has a longer history in Europe than the Red Bull one...B-25 44-29507 arrived in Netherlands in May 1990 and joind the airshowcircuit almost immediately.

Yes indeed, I have fond memories of that, TFC's 'Grumpy' and a third French B-25 (the aircraft that eventually ended up with the Amicale Jean Baptiste Salis Collection, which crashed in 2011) tearing up the strip at Duxford during the mid-90s, and again, in 2009!

I remember seeing the DoBAF Mitchell at West Malling airfield in the early 1990s ??

I did quite like the smoked nose glazing she wore at the time.
