New Apollo movie to be made

May interest some - ive been told - Warner Bros has hired Richard Cordiner to script Spacesuit, based on the book by Nicholas De Michoud. This tells the true story of the unsung heroes of the Apollo space program– a team of bra and girdle designers from Playtex who successfully built the iconic spacesuit that enabled Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin to walk on the moon. This improbable band of outsiders, led by a former TV repairman, a car mechanic, and their crew of spirited seamstresses, accomplished what all the aerospace giants couldn’t. It’s a long way from the shop floor of Playtex to the surface of the moon, and this incredible story tracks how it happened.

It'd be interesting to see this story being told, but I'm wondering how popular a movie this'd be, considering it's technically a space movie that takes place in a factory...

It should be very uplifting, but will need a strong supporting cast. I wonder how flexible the script is?

Actually International Latex Corporation (ILC) made the Apollo suits. David Clark and Hamilton Standard were in the running but ILC was more flexible and innovative in their design teams and management. Hamilton won the contract for the life support system (backpack).

Clark made partial presure suits starting with the X-1 and developed and manufactured the X-15 suits which were the start point for astronaut suits up through GEMINI EVA'S.
Felix Baumgardner wore a Clark built suit last year when he took 'the big step', and Joe Kittinger may have worn one back during his balloon rides since they would have been 'state of the art'.

I am looking forward to the movie, but this reminds me of the very fine episode of "Moon Machines" on the Science Channel a few years ago that covered all the behind the scenes drama of making the suits.
