Duxford Flying Legends 2013 Pics (Video Added)

Tue Jul 16, 2013 4:42 pm

My fifth time at Duxford Flying Legends – being married to an airline employee has its advantages ;) I’ll leave the in-flight pics to the people who have the equipment and the talent to capture those moments. I have two days of video to go through and edit, which I will post here when done. In the meantime, I offer the following.

I’m immediately drawn to the conservation hanger 5, which now temporarily holds some items from the Imperial War Museum in London currently under renovation. Including a Spitfire Mark I and P-51 Big Beautiful Doll that hung from the ceiling.

There was also the fuselage section and a Daimler Benz DB601A from the BF110 flown by Rudolf Hess.
Image

... and a few other items here and there, some under wrap.
Image

The Casa 2.111 still awaits. :(
Image

Over in hanger 3, Ferocious Frankie has just finished her new engine install but sadly not soon enough to fly at Legends. I’ll have to wait another year to hear her howl again.
Image

Over in TFC Hanger 2, the Corsair and Hellcat stay silent. I saw the Corsair fly last year but was really hoping to see the Hellcat fly this year.
Image

The TFC Beaufighter is certainly progressing - but I imagine a while before she flies. pop2

It was very hot this weekend, fortunately there was relief nearby. :drink3:
Image

The heat also necessitated creative wear of hi-vis dress. 8)
Image

A lot of re-enactors here this year.
Image

On the flight line the usual bevy of Spitfires.
Image

... and two... count em... two Gladiators alongside the Hawker quartet.
Image

TFC’s P-47 Snafu on the line for her third year and second for flying status.
Image

... and some new comers – well – at least for me.

Finally got to see TFC’s Wildcat fly.
Image

Laurent Calame brought his TBM-3E Avenger. I was amazed how maneuverable she was and thrilled as her propeller vibrated the ground I stood on as she ripped by.
Image

P-51 Princes Elizabeth made her return to Duxford.
Image

Along with Vlado’s ol’ mount.
Image

One of the highlights for me? Getting a picture with my pilot idol Mr. Steve Hinton. 8)

What a great weekend, can’t wait to go back. Sorry if I didn’t post more but many were repeats – you can see them At My Flickr Photo Sets if you like. :D 8)

LOVE your picture of the "usual bevy of Spitfires"! Nice video as well! Hearing the droning, on and on and on...of the fella on the speakers takes away so much of the beautiful sound of the aircraft engines  Seems like at times he is speaking ever louder due to the horrendous noises coming from those flying things in front of him!

Thanks for your time in posting the pix and video :drink3:
