B-17 help request

Mon Aug 12, 2013 11:35 am

Yesterday I met the copilot of B-17G 'Warzend' which flew with the 8th AF, 452nd BG, 728 SQ from Deopham Green in late 1944 and early 45. He lives near me and I actually pass there twice a day on my way to and from work. I'm looking for information and photos of this plane as I'd like to build a model of the plane to give him. So far the only thing I've found was the plane's name (misspelled) on a 452nd site's nose art list but no photos. I know that she was a bare metal G and should have an L on the tail, but I can't find anything on a serial number or nose art. Does anyone have any leads?

My guy is a Lt. Miller and this may very well be the crew. They're in front of Forbidden Fruit II in this picture but this wasn't the normal crew for that plane so it may very well be the correct Lt. Miller.

Wally Forman's book on B-17s lists WARS END (two words) as 452 BG...but no Sqn; No tail number and no known photo.

Mine is definitely one word, spelled with a Z and all caps. I wonder if the one in the book is a completely different plane or they were just that far off. I've found a list of 452nd serial numbers and it isn't on the list by either name unfortunately. I don't know if this list is complete or not either.

LOVE the art on the jacket....there was no reason for the jacket artist to do anything different than what was on the plane! I say you have a winner!

I found that interview a little bit ago and can't wait to listen to it, by the transcript it looks like it's two hours long.

I may end up dropping in on Mr. Miller and see if he can shed some more light on it. He told me where he lives and I've been passing there to and from work every day for years.

Thanks for the help guys!

Enjoy the time you can spend with him and don't wait a day.

I second that....a Pathfinder vet friend always tells me, "I'm not buying GREEN BANANAS these days...."
