EADS`s Bf-109 G "Red 7" Bellylanding, Pilot unharmed

Sun Aug 18, 2013 1:40 pm

Today EADS/Messerschmitt Foundation´s Bf 109 G-4 D-FWME had to bellyland in a field near Kopenhagen´s Roskilde airport, where it was taking part at the airshow. Due to engine problems pilot Klaus Plasa had to emergency land in a field. He is unharmed, damage to the 109 seems to be relatively moderate. Shame is, now there are all 3 of EADS 109´s under repair / overhaul, none of them airworthy.

P.S.: If you listen to the engine sound when watching the 3. video, you can clearly hear the engine stuttering and stop.

Poor thing. That's at least the fifth serious accident that airframe has incurred in civilian hands. :(

From available evidence, it would appear Herr Plasa did a masterful job in saving both his own skin and the aircraft. She will fly again. A good day all things considered.

Thank the good Lord for wooden prop blades otherwise the engine would be junk. The pilot is a good stick so no worries there.

Great landing, all things considered... but maybe it's time for new paint job, because this poor girl has been nothing but star-crossed while wearing this livery. Maybe a new scheme will bring better luck. :-/

Still- this sucks. :(

Kudos to the pilot for a great job. Low altitude, sudden loss of of power, he was able to walk away and the airframe survived.

Im trying to think of a positive if there is one to come from a beautiful warbird getting damaged. But, maybe Robert Taylor or another artist can use the photographs for some derivative art.

I know what you mean, but I'm thankful it wasn't worse...the pilot walked away, and the airframe isn't a total loss. Maybe time to give the bird a new start, as others have suggested!

I'm going to take that last shot, run it through the grayscale converter in Photoshop, and you almost wouldn't be able to tell it wasn't taken in 1943. :)

On a side note, look at the wheat in the path of the aircraft's slide... I've done more damage in my own yard just by walking in it. That is one *AMAZING* pilot- talk about skill!!! And the Danish equivalent of AAA was out there ridiculously quick with a crane to snatch her up, too. Disappointing, yes, but hardly catastrophic- seems she'll be back in the air in short order. :)

Any landing you can walk away from is a good landing! Great job by the pilot especially with very little airspace to respond to this IFE without an ensuing wreck and fire! Hate to hear about any airplane mishap and/or loss of life. I expect that the 109 and the pilot will be back in the air as quickly as possible. :drink3:

Indeed.......that's better than text book :drink3:

He'd get my vote for WIX Warbird Pilot of the Year Award 2013 if we had such a thing :supz:

(perhaps we should)
