WW2 Mystery Inspection Stamp - Help

Sat Sep 07, 2013 5:25 pm

Hi All,

Trying to ID this inspection stamp. Any ideas... I am really stumped by this. Some helpful people on another Forum told me it might be a Republic inspection stamp?

Thanks

Possibly a Lockheed stamp, see link below and scroll to Lockheed.
Ones known and shown have the parenthesis on both sides of the " R XX ", and one with a line connecting them top and bottom.

Edit: Looking at the picture closer, looks to me like the right-side parenthesis was there, and has corroded almost away ... my bet is Lockheed P-38 Insp. stamp.

Hi There,

Thanks very much for your help... You are indeed correct. I can see the end bracket has not been stamped properly and can only see the bottom of it.

The only conundrum is that P-38 part numbers begin with 19,20,21,22,23,24+ and this number begins with a 61.

What did the Lockheed Hudson or Electra part numbers start with???

Thanks so much. Its been doing my head in.
