X-Prize man launches rocket race

Tue Oct 04, 2005 9:17 am

Not exactly warbirds, but I thought you guys might be interested in this crazy idea that Peter Diamandis, the guy who created the X-prize, has dreamed up next... apparently with the full support of the FAA.

He is planning on setting up an air-racing league.... but with planes powered by rockets!!! Can you imagine the mess that's going to cause when two of them collide. It doesn't bear thinking about. Apparently the first of these rocket-planes will be launched this weekend! They plan on having the first race next year... so this thing is moving ahead very quickly indeed!

Crazy!

Cheers,
Richard

Can I submit my X-15? 8)

Or a Me-163, just be real careful with that fuel

Does anyone have a spare B-52 that could give me a lift?

i think the concept is fabulous & it pushes the envelope technology wise with no military interference via darpa etc, thus a great savings to the taxpayer, & what ever positive info is found benefits us all.
