this was a vampire i think. from hamilton OHIO airshow 1995
this was the most fun airshow i was ever at. the P-47 buzzed me so low i actually flinched. i felt this one was a little bit more wild west than other shows i'd been to, and any since...

Man, those airshoes at hamiltaon were fun. I was in the Civil Air Patrol at the time. This is where I started liking warbirds. One year the Collings Foundation was there with the 17 and 24, the 24 was painted as All American at the time. One of the crew noticed me looking at the plane and gave me a tour and a hat to go with it. I still have the hat. I think that was around 1991 or 92. Charles Osbourne and Norm Lewis always brought alot of aircraft up. I have some great pictures from those airshows. I will have to find them and scan them.

what was great about that year (50th anniversary of end of WWII) was the great turnout. every year since has been slightly disappointing to me, in comparison to that. seems everything came out of the woodwork for 1995. what i liked especially about hamilton ohio was the lack of officiation. the planes overflew the audience, which caused me to duck! not so many barricades. it was up to YOU to not get killed. no babysitting. it's also why i like to go to the traildraggers fly-in at waynesville. it's wide-open, baby! keep your eyes and ears open and you won't lose your head!
