Emergency crews say a pilot appears to have suffered non life-threatening injuries after a fighter jet ran off the runway at Reno Stead Airport.

Reno Fire Department officials tell us they believe the MiG 21 Russian fighter jet experienced brake failure upon landing around 9:15am Friday. The jet continued on until it landed in some nearby brush in ravine. Crews secured the ejection seat with the help from mechanics, and then helped the pilot out of the aircraft.

He was taken to an area hospital by ambulance.

Fire crews remain on scene to make the plane and nearby brush do not catch fire.

The FAA is responding to the scene.

Probably in the same way that running your car off the road and down a small ravine could be described as a 'crash'?

I drove by it yesterday after they got it back to the hangar, I do believe it will be a write off. cheaper to get another one than fix that one. It is sad sight to look at now.

Judging from the topography of that ravine, and the relative condition of the airframe, that's one tough bird!
