Another Dec 7 upon us. I was going to wait to post these ...

Tue Nov 19, 2013 1:30 pm

... but seeing it is still November it seems appropriate to post them now ... and if you can wait until Dec 7 you'll really see some amazing stuff. (I'll wait to post the really neat photos of the P-40's and B-17's of which many of you have been searching for) The last five photos are not in Hawaii as far as I can tell.

Wow, more great photos!
Awesome.

I believe this is the story on the Y1B-17:

7 December 1936 - First Y1B-17, 36-149, c/n 1973, first flown 2 December, makes rough landing at Boeing Field, Seattle, Washington, on third flight, when Army pilot Stanley Umstead touches down with locked brakes, airframe ends up on nose after short skid. Repaired, Flying Fortress departs for Wright Field on 11 January 1937.[4]

Mark, thank you so much for taking the time to share these.

No thank you John, my part is easy as I just post away. No real effort. Thx for the info. Always appreciated as it's nice to add real data and stories to these old photos. As I've said many times, It's fun to sit back and learn new stuff.

Thanks again

Mark

I saved all those Wheeler Field pics as well Mark- if you go to the seller's page and select "Completed listings", you will find a whole bunch more goodies in there. Wound up with somewhere over 50 pics... and I am immensely grateful to the seller for scanning them so large! :)

Mark, these are terrific! Never thought I'd see any shots of those A-12s, which were still there at the time of the attack along with the P-26s and B-12s (the book East Wind, Rain shows a damaged P-26 in a hangar).

Good stuff Mark. Looking forward to the rest of the pics. Just for grins....you don't happen to have some Duck pics from the Dec 7th timeframe do you? I'm wondering if we maybe able to recognize one as Chuck Greenhill's J2F-4. I've never seen a Pearl Harbor pic of it.

Here's the albums these photos came from and as Lynn stated they are on ebay waiting for the highest bidder. These albums belonged to a fellow who was stationed in Hawaii from 1939 thru 1941.

B 307 NX 19901 1st. airframe delivered to PAN AM but bailed back as a test vehicle and spun in fatally in this configuration (2 engines feathered on right side) near Alder, WA. 3/18/39 when it ran out of rudder authority. Test configuration was asked for by the KLM factory rep who died in the crash along with the test flight crew.

I've made an effort to contact the guy to see about acquiring the albums. I agree they should stay intact. See what happens.

Just noticed something about the Boeing Stratoliner photo. Looks to be that both right side outboard and inboard engines are feathered? Certainly would explain the strong left rudder being used.

Obviously you skipped over my posting about the incident under the second post of photos-why do I even try?
