German FuG16 DF Antenna

Thu Dec 19, 2013 10:41 pm

I'm a fulltime employee of the Tri-State Warbird Museum in Ohio and am working on the build of their Flug Werk FW190. One of the cosmetic things I want to do to make the bird look more like the real thing (among other things) is to fabricate and attach to the lower rear fuselage a FuG 16 DF loop antenna. Does anyone out there have any information on how the antenna and fairing was constructed and mounted to the fuselage? Does anyone have an original in their collection they'd be willing to loan for duplication?

I have a drawing from an original manual showing some dimensions of the fairing and loop but it is not detailed enough to determine how the antenna was constructed and mounted.

It seems to me that I saw a photo of at least one of the new-build ME 262s having a FuG16 DF loop on the rear fuselage behind the canopy. Anyone know how to contact the fellows who built these aircraft?

Thanks,
Barry

The antenna on White 1 is just a shaped loop of stainless steel strap bent on the ends to pick up two screws through a shaped block of wood fairing and nutted and screwed to the spine of the fuselage.
