Generally an aircraft seat (like a Warren McArthur with all the unneeded height adjustment mechanism removed) is just fastened to the flat shelf behind the pilot that formerly supported the bottom of the fuselage fuel tank. The pilot's seat is then modified at the upper supports so that it can be tilted forward for the passenger to get in and out. Usually quick release pins on lanyards are used at the upper support.

You might want to revise your topic name to "P-51D passenger seat details" or something similar.

Some of the web sites where warbirds are sold will feature interior photos.

Otherwise I bet their is something out there on google.

Some of the Mustangs with a tarted up interior look a little nicer than others, but the underpinnings are generally the same- though I did do one without the lower seat pan and just fastened the back of the seat to the floor. This allowed for a small baggage area behind the rear seat when you hinged the back forward.

I would also post over at aafo.com; the site is all about the Reno Air Races. Someone over their can guide you in the right direction.

Note that this aircraft has been modified with a stick in the rear seat, but it is not a TF-51. The front seat would likely need to be narrowed to accomodate rudder pedals with a setup like this.

From a UK CAA report:
The pilots seat mounting had been modified in previous civilian ownership to
facilitate the tilting of the seat pan to allow the egress of the rear seat
passenger. The design of the mounting has not been substantiated by a
prior design report, stress analysis or modification, therefore the structure
has been removed from the aircraft. The pilots seat (Schick Johnson 95-
100) mounting has been returned to the original manufacturers configuration
in accordance with NAA drawing numbers 106-31671-1 (seat support) and
106-31429 (seat support beam). All work is recorded in work pack reference
number xxxxxxxxx.
The aircraft had been fitted with a rear passenger seat positioned behind the
pilots seat in the cockpit compartment on the rear fuselage fuel tank floor.
The seat and harness installation has not been substantiated by a prior
design report, stress analysis or modification and has therefore been
removed from the aircraft. All work is recorded in work pack reference
number xxxxxxxxx.

Hey Mark, this may /may not help, but the next time you go to an IPMS show, look for venders selling old Air Classics, Warbird Int., or old Warbidrs Worldwide mags. I've seen pic.s of early restored P-51s etc. in them with an extra back seat. Good luck, keep modeling, Anthony
