CORSAIR PORTFOLIO

Korean War combat veteran F4U-4 Corsair Bu 97359 flew with VF-44 off the USS Boxer raking up 300 combat hours. The sortie undertaken for this portfolio was far less dangerous the aircraft being ‘shot’ by the lens of renowned photographer Paul Bowen.
The result is featured in three stunning pages of aerial photography.


BATTLE FOR SURVIVAL

At the time of conception the Battle was a modern design and confidence was such that 155 aircraft were ordered before the first aircraft had even flown. Unfortunately due to the high pace of advances in aircraft technology, the aircrafts level of performance proved to far be below that of the opposition it would eventually face and it suffered dreadfully in the opening phases of WWII. However it did go on to become an invaluable part of the important Air Training programs in Canada and Australia. This article takes a look back at the type and details the few remaining survivors.


THE FULL FURY Pt.1

In this, the first of several installments, we take a look at the Hawker Sea Fury, the Fleet Air Arm's last piston-engined fighter and one of the fastest piston aircraft ever built.
Included in the historic overview are several unpublished photographs of operational aircraft of the Royal Navy during the Korean War along with Iraqi Air Force and German Target Tug aircraft. We then begin our look at the Survivors of the type, starting with those that are currently extant in Australia and South Africa.


CREVE COUER

Creve Coeur is a remarkable pilot's paradise offering a runway and a cross strip. Over 100 hangars occupy this 285 acre antique aviation mecca, most housing antique, classic or warbird type aircraft. The numbers of rare and interesting machines continues to grow all the time, some as the result of new purchases, others due to restorations that take place on the field itself. This article takes a look at the characters and the classics that make this ‘old fashioned friendly airfield’ a delight to visit, as the Editor was to discover!



EDGAR PERCIVAL EP.9

Designed and built as a private venture by Edgar Percival this unusual aircraft was mainly used for crop spraying and other agricultural uses- the 32 mph stall speed making it ideally suited for the task. Consequently the majority found there way to farming intensive Commonwealth countries. In this article we take a look at the history of the type and document the surviving airframes.

The latest issue, Vol 12 No. 4, has just arrived in my letterbox. Thanks Dave, Graham and the team for another really fine issue, a flick through revealed much to take my interest. The photos throughout look superb. Fantastic spreads of all the recent airshows!

Great to see the Wicko, I hadn't heard about it returning to flight. I never knew they were so few too. Only 11 made! Only one survivor! Wow.

And the Fw 58C and Fokker Universal finds are really interesting and new to me too.

Is that Lynette Zuccoli's Fiat G-59B being offered for sale? Or is it another one?

Anyway, well done guys, a great issue again!

I imagine it is the Zuccoli Fiat - it has been for sale for quite a while and I imagine most of the aircraft could be purchase if the price was right except the Sea Fury which lynette seems to be really attached to.

The Fiat is a stunner in the air but a bit of an orphan in collectors eyes

As John says, the G.59 is the Zuccoli aircraft, and sorry to inform you John that the Sea Fury is also listed for sale.
Possibly some movement on the FW 58C in the near future hopefully.

I wonder if the Sea Fury will leave Australia? What else is in the Zuccoli collection then? I know they built a hideous Fiat ducted fan thingy replica which I doubt anyone would buy. What about the ex-RNZAF Harvard they had, is that still with them? Or is that what Guido sadly was killed in?

I hope the Focke Wulf 58 is rescued from the depths. Fingers crossed. Who licence built them (as mentioned in the article?)

Picture of Judy's shiny ex RNZAF Harvard in the news pages. She also has the Boomerang and Trojan plus a few DH Vampire fuselages I think.
The Fw 58 was also produced by Gotha in Germany and Fábrica of Galeão in Brazil.
