Japanese Oscar at Sandia Base

Sun Oct 23, 2005 3:54 pm

A good friend has told me that he visited Sandia Base about 50 years ago, to see a Japanese Oscar fighter.....

Do you know anything about this particular airplane? What happened with it? Sandia became a storage facility shortly after WW-II, so it is very likely that the Oscar was stored there. What happened to it?

For a history of Kirtland, Manzano and Sandia bases, please see:

Interesting, but not really here or there, after the war two buildings used in final assembly of the test atomic bombs in Wendover, Utah were disassembled piece by piece, loaded on a train car and shipped to Sandia/Oxnard. The gentleman I spoke with indicated that once in NM they continued to use the buildings in the rapid build up of the US Nuclear arsenal for a year or two.

Found out that the Oscar was moved a long time ago . . . to the Smitshonian? Or to the USAFM?
