It was!
Also very impressive was the mass air-drop on the Sunday morning over the site of the historic La Fière battle (see e.g. http://www.travelfranceonline.com/la-fi ... ttle-wwii/ or http://smallwarsjournal.com/jrnl/art/th ... ere-bridge). Some 600 current military were air-dropped from 10 C-130's (incl. USAF, RAF, Dutch and I believe Italian air force) and 1 French and 1 German C-160 that each made 3 or 4 passes over the drop zone.
If you like WW2 military vehicles, Normandy was the place to be this past weekend too. Hundreds, possibly thousands, of them, in every small village and on every road, including the motorways all the way into Belgium.
