My first instinct was to think that the Japanese government made this choice but I read the piece carefully and realized that this was done by the US government - the DLA. This is a shame no matter how you slice it and a grand disappointment.

I can believe it.Just wait till some of the B-17s sitting as gate guards get to be too far gone due to outside storage. They will do the same thing. You cant buy them and you cant trade for them so get ready.

I will arrange for those B-17s to umm disappear, then reappear with forged data plates in my front yard. I'm sure most airforce staff would look the other way while it was disassembled and moved to save it from being cut up I know I would.

I guess other words for "demilitarization" are "convert to tiny pieces of unusable aluminum." Hard to believe that in 2014 a T-6 had to be destroyed to keep it from being used for military purposes (like what?).

That was my thought. How do you "demilitarize" a plane that was already not flightworthy? And, even if it was, what possible sinister use could have been conceived that someone couldn't do with a standard general aviation plane? Sometimes, you just have to shake your head.
