Was anyone else stuck watching CHCH News hoping to catch a glimpse of the take off these past two days? What a waste of time. That station should be ashamed, they had a worldwide spotlight to show this historic event and completely blew it.

To be accurate, CGVRA is not returning to the motherland. Avro Lancaster B.MkX FM213 was built in mid 1945 at Victory Aircraft in Malton, Ontario and entered service with the RCAF Maritime Command.

I was there on Monday waiting patiently as they encountered problems with starting the no 2 engine. After aborting the take off for that day they worked overnight and all went well for wheels up the following morning.

I only had a point and shoot but was able to get a video of this historic take off.

Just curious, why didn't they go over for the D-Day commemoration in June? Would have been amazing to have seen two Lancs going over Gold and Juno beaches!

I was wondering who the first party pooper was going to be to call that out.

While it was built in Canada, it's still a British design. A plane can have multiple "mother lands", it doesn't just have to be where it was built and I would say the RAF agrees as they welcomed it "home".

The link I posted at the beginning has the entire schedule for the trip. Post trip Mx is planned for the first three days. Tuesday should be the first flight training day with the other Lanc followed by Wednesday and then both departing Thursday for the first AirShow.

Yeah, I know I'm a stickler for details and it tends to piss some people off. But you are correct in your comment and sometimes we need to let things roll.
