West Coast Drought and Wrecks

Hi All
Even though the Midwest and Eastern USA has been wetter and cooler then normal, I am just wondering.... Since the West Coast is having the worst drought in recorded history and lakes and rivers are drying up. Has anyone found or out looking for "Lost" planes? I see on internet and news that Lake Mead is down Millions of Gallons which appears to be 25-30 feet below normal. Is the B-29 viable for recovery? Not allot of coverage on people finding things...
Just curious?

Not funny, Mark... I was halfway out the door to my car with a tow rope and a winch when I stopped and realized that was an old pic from Sweden

Thanks for the link to that site though, I had never seen that before! It's almost a shame that 110 was recovered and put in a museum, as that would've made a FANTASTIC basis for an airworthy restoration.

The Lake Mead B-29 is about 250 feet below the surface and pretty much intact; however there do seem to be some corrosion issues. More importantly, the National Park Service threw its usual tantrum, saying in effect "No No No Mine Mine Mine You Can't Have It!!! ", so there it will stay. More here:

Lake Mead also has a PBY that has never been found.

the weather has been wacky in 2014 for sure! the lake mead b-29 is more recoverable than ever, but lake mead is under the authority of the u.s. dept of the interior, which is like dealing with the u.s. navy in attitude adjustment, even though the usaf doesn't give a rat's ass about the recovery of it's 29. I can only imagine the regulations that would be enforced as to the environmental protection issues that I am for, up to the practicality.

I would argue that the B-29 "Has" to be raised. Because, like the USS Arizona it has fluids like oil, hydraulics and avgas on board. This will leak out into the water system at some point in the future. AT least the Arizona isn't leaking into the drinking water system.

the pby was found and is dove on now and then, its all torn apart, a few guys died in it when they didn't retract the gear, I've seen pics of it b4 on the webb....last year I was there and the zebra mussles from back east are going crazy in the lake, sad but true....

also -lake mead is the buffer for the west coast, they run it up and down and have been for years, it was up a few years ago so I heard, then it ran back down...the overton arm launch ramps are all closed up....ill go hunt for them if anybody has any ideas of crashed west coast birds...Im always open for a fun chase!
