I do not recall hearing about this unit before, I would have loved to hear Lt. Cmdr. Kenneth Williams stories. R.I.P. sir, & Thank You for your service!

I found that page the same way and came back here to recommend it! It's a very good read.

One of the first books I read in English was 'Flying Black Ponies: The Navy's Close Air Support Squadron in Vietnam' (Kit Lavell)

A vivid account of Kit Lavall's tour with VAL 4. As I read it was very much like WWII ETO style 'CAS On Demand' kind of task they had.

Highly recommendable

I concur. Fabulous book! I also read another called "CALLSIGN: RUSTIC". Also a great book.

I took this picture of these two beauties in Alburquerque back in May of this year. Pretty sure these are part of the former Combat Dragon II program
