WW2 Aircraft panel markings question

Tue Nov 11, 2014 1:25 pm

I was wondering how lettering and other markings were made on instrument panels, electrical boxes and other items in the cockpit. Seems like some sort of a screen printing method? I'm wanting to reproduce some things.

Silk screened, decals or engraved and paint filled, depending on the panel itself.

decals for Curtiss H75, 81, 87 (probably for all US ac)

For french ac, metallic etiquettes, with white or aluminium or luminescents letters on black background (or another color according to specification)
height of letters , 4mm for gauge etiquettes, 6 & 8mm for others
