Salvage value?

Wed Nov 09, 2005 5:32 pm

Has anyone on the list recently purchased a damaged
or wrecked T-6 (like in the last 5 or so years)?

If so, would you care to share what you may have paid
for said project? I've been asked to provide an estimated
salvage value for a locally damaged T-6, and I'd like to be
as fair / accurate as possible. The last such project I'm
personally aware of was blown into the corner of a hangar by
a tornado down south somewhere and was sold via closed salvage
bid.

Respond privately if you so desire (my e-mail address is:
snj-5@comcast.net)

Thanks,

Bela: It's going to vary so much that you can't really put a value on it without making a good inspection of the wreckage. I've seen ones that have very little value above scrap weight all the way to 50-60% of the flight worthy value.

If you can get the time to closely look at the wreckage, you would need to evaluate the visable damage to the tubing section, center section, wing panels, aft fuselage and tail feathers as well as the gear and the QEC.
It all can be fixed with time, talent and beau coup bucks, but a good inspection will tell you if it is even worth trying to rebuild or just strip it and sell what you can.

Thanks Craig.

I did inspect the aircraft, and submitted an estimate to repair it.
I know what it was worth before the accident, and I know what
it would cost (now) to repair it. I realize I'd have to give detailed
information about the nature of the damage to this particular airplane
to get an accurate estimate as to the salvage value, but I'm not
inclined to do that just right now for a variety of reasons.... 8)

In a nutshell, I know of the Bowlin T-6G that Yeager ground-looped
(it sold via salvage closed bid) and another T-6 that was blown
into the corner of a hangar by a Tornado down in the south states.
I was hoping to learn what those two aircraft sold for (for example).

In any event, I do have a number/figure in my head as to what I
think it's worth, and when it comes down to brass tacks, I think
the best course of action is to offer that amount, and if someone
is willing to pay more, they're welcome to take the airframe/project
home to play with it.

Take care,

I actually thought about putting a bid on that A/C  I talked to Yeager the next day, he was all banged up! Sort of looked like a raccoon w/ two black eyes, but of course I didn't tell him that!

Here's what she looked like (from Ed & Connie's site)
