Cripes, a $500 Million budget? For that, they should be able to get a gathering of B-17s back across the pond to rival the Memphis Belle shooting in 1989!

For $500 milli8o you could reform the entire 8th AF!

Really, that would be something like $50 million an episode.
Even after taking away Speilberg's $10 million an episode for just putting his name on it, that's a lot of money...and almost hard to believe.
Two hour-long feature films with big names that get $10 million don't cost any more than that. And I'm sure they'll continue their practice of hiring less-expensive up-coming stars.

Hopefully it won't be another CGI disaster.

People need to recall that when they were making their, "Pacific" series, HBO was awfully quiet, then, too...

I hope they do it right and also not screw up the ground crews

Nothing to worry about, I hear Speilberg hired the guys that did the Tuskeegee airmen film....so we'll have plenty of wing folding B-17s thrown in at no extra charge. :)

Just remember that between them, Spielberg and Hanks are responsible for "Saving Private Ryan," "Band of Brothers," "The Pacific" and "From Earth to the Moon."

And Spielberg also gave us the P-51 attack sequence in "Empire of the Sun," the classic PBY vs fisherman scene and desperate A-26 rescue of "Always" and even the unforgettable Flight 19 discovery at the opening of "Close Encounters of the Third Kind."

I feel these guys have demonstrated time and again that they are passionate about aviation history and respectful of veterans .. resulting in some of the best, most compelling, exciting and memorable moments of on screen combat and/or aerial action of the last 40 years.

Do you think we can maybe give them the benefit of the doubt that they'll actually do a good job with this one? I, for one, will look forward to settling in on my couch every week when it premieres pop2

I'm totally with you TBDude but, remember: we're on the Internet. Don't get positive about a film or TV show which hasn't come out yet.

I have total faith in them. It's going to be amazing. Band Of Brothers was real "event" television, I was in my early teens when it screened and the whole family watched it (and taped it!).

Actually, "From the Earth to the Moon was a Tom Hanks - Ron Howard production. I don't think Spielberg had a lot to do with it. Still, Hank's is a big part of a winning team!

Agree 100% with Hanks passion and intent of the series, no question. The Pacific was badly let down by poor script writing and muddled storylines IMO, it always strikes me as a poor attempt at recreating the success of BoB. Had they just done Sledge or Basilone as a stand alone topic. And it didn't cost HBO $200 Million by the time the Australians chipped in incentives for them to film there it was more like $50 million

and BTW you also left out Amazing Stories" The Mission" :D

They must have a hell of a gag order for no one here to know anything! Or are they simply not using any real aircraft at all?

At any rate how could nothing be known and then all the sudden BAM multi episode mini series!! I remember the constant flow of information about the making of Pearl Harbor. Sadly it looked so good in the making but such a dud.

I have known for a long time and a buddy of mine is working on building some replica ball turret support frames for the series.
