Petie 2

I see on the Courtesy Webpage that Petie 2 is sold. Anybody know to who?
I was in a taxi going to the Spririt of St. Louis airport and driving by Creve Coeur (1h0) there she sat. It really stands out.

Congrats to the new owner.

Pretty good timing ! I landed there about 10:15 yesterday morning. Delivery to the new and very happy owner- he bought it as a retirement present to himself.
Beautiful trip down from Rockford. 12,500 ft., 277 knots groundspeed !
I am honored to be able to fly these beautiful parts of our history.

Say, is our new Mustang owner current in type? In other words, does the chance exist that we'll be seeing two of "Petie 2" at OSH (you know how easily confused those ground handlers get)?

Bloomin cheek! We can handle two Mustangs with the same name no problem.

The new owner will be checked out and hopes to be at OSH.
Will be a nice sight for sure.

What he said! I'm sure we'll be able to keep it sorted out. After all, we had two Shangri-La mustangs in Kissimmee in '99 and had no problems there...

This would be N314BG, s/n 44-73140, restored by Pioneer Aero for the Doug Arnold collection years ago. It is the resurected CF-BAU, formerly of the Canadian Warplane Heritage, ex Dr. Burns Bryam 'Tangerine,' etc. If Pete McManus (along wityh afformentioned Tony Buechler) shows up at Osh' there could be THREE Peties on the line! Heavens me... I could think of WORSE things!!! :0) Jim

Hi Jim--

N314BG..."Resurrected" would be the right word, for sure! I well remember seeing and photographing what was left of the much-lamented BA:U Mustang at CWH. A tailcone and half a stabilizer. Geez, what a kick in the head. That had been one lovely Mustang; and even as recently as '99 (at Elmira NY) I chatted with another enthusiast (from Stateside) who still missed old BA:U.

Glad to hear that Petie is flying again. Haven't seen that plane since the week after Classic Fighter Display at Duxford 92. All three Warbirds of Great Britain Mustangs sitting together in the hangar at Bournemouth, and I did not have a camera to photograph them with. Still can't forgive myself for that!

Is this the plane that was restored by Gordon Plasket back in the early 1980's?

The first Warbirds International magazine I ever purchased included an article about Gordon Plasket's restoration of a Mustang which was finished out as Petie the 2nd. I believe he was based in King City, California at the time. For that time period, the paint scheme was really an eye popper! Always wondered what happened to that plane.

I'm pretty certain the ex-Plaskett machine is the one owned by Dr. Tony Buechler. He's been flying out of the airport at Waukesha, WI for some time.
