A U.S. Marine Corps Bell UH-1E helicopter from Marine light helicopter squadron HML-167 Warriors with a special Christmas paint in flight over Marble Mountain in Vietnam on Christmas Day, 1970.


A McDonnell Douglas F-4B Phantom II of fighter squadron VF-111 Sundowners, Attack Carrier Air Wing Fifeteen (CVW-15), being launched from the aircraft carrier USS Coral Sea (CVA-43) on Christmas 1971 by a catapult officer dressed up as "Santa Claus". The Coral Sea was on a deployment to Vietnam from 12 Nov 1971 to 17 Jul 1972. The F-4B is armed with AIM-9D Sidewinder and AIM-7 Sparrow air-to-air-missiles. -


The U.S. aircraft carrier USS Essex (CVS-) off Rotterdam, the Netherlands, in December 1961. The destroyer in the center background is USS Robinson (DD-562). Crewmen on the deck are spelling out "Merry Christmas" in Dutch. -


Over 1,000 sailors form a Christmas tree on the flight deck of the aircraft carrier USS John F. Kennedy (CV 67) as the ship operates in the Persian Gulf on Dec. 16, 1999. The Kennedy Battle Group is deployed to the Persian Gulf in support of Operation Southern Watch which is the U.S. and coalition enforcement of the no-fly-zone over Southern Iraq.


Santa Claus nose art painted on a C-130 Hercules aircraft of the 374th Airlift Wing commemorates the 40th anniversary of the Christmas air drops to islanders of the Federated States of Micronesia. Crews from the 345th and 21st Airlift Squadrons are assigned to fly the C-130 for the Christmas Drop '92 missions. Every Christmas since 1952, food, clothing, tools and toys donated by residents of Guam have been delivered by air to 40 Micronesian islands. Nose art reads "40th Anniversary 1952 - 1992." NORTH ARABIAN SEA (December 25, 2009) Lt. Jon Sunderland dresses in a Santa suite while directing aircraft operations aboard the aircraft carrier USS Nimitz (CVN 68) Christmas Day. Nimitz Carrier Strike Group is on a routine deployment to the region. Operations in the U.S. 5th Fleet area of operations are focused on reassuring regional partners of the United Statesí commitment to security, which promotes stability and global prosperity.


NORTH ARABIAN SEA (Dec. 25, 2009) Landing signal officers direct an approaching aircraft for landing aboard the aircraft carrier USS Nimitz (CVN 68) during flight operations on Christmas Day in the U.S. 5th Fleet area of responsibility. -


NORFOLK (Dec. 19, 2010) An F/A-18 Hornet is decorated with Christmas lights on the flight deck of the aircraft carrier USS George H.W. Bush -
