Every few years they run stories on this bird. They've known it was a presidential aircraft squadron since 1980 and have turned down numerous offers in the past. Look at some of the remarkable collections amassed since 1980. Kermit Weeks, LSFM, Palm Springs Air Museum (Bob Pond), Evergreen, and on and on. Sometimes a seller screws around too long and misses the big money, just like in real estate and when businesses sell.

That being said, it is still a shame she is sitting out there...

Sure would be nice to save her! Let's start a collection.

As Marine Air says, sometimes sellers screw around. I do remember, this plane had a price tag some years ago which was really beyond belief. That's probably what potential buyers thought too... And look, 20 years later the plane has still not been been sold!

However, as Peter mentions, it is really a shame that she is sitting out there. Here is a Constellation that could be made flyable again. And with quite a history to boot. With the MATS Connie gone and the Kansas City group doing whatever they're doing here is one of the last ones that can become operational again.

Beautiful plane and I hope she is saved. I think the price tag has been the sticking point for a lot of potential buyers. Beyond the initial price, the cost of getting her flyable and/or dismantling her for transport has to be considered. I heard a rumor of an East Coast museum that was interested a year or so ago but couldn't negotiate a deal...

Apparently this group is considering it:

Latest update from "Warbird News" on progress with the inspection of Columbine II in Arizona. Hopefully we will see this great airplane in the air again.

If not flying, at least in a museum. Connie's are beautiful planes. The more that are saved, the better...
