I like this idea. I have some notes that may be useful in this effort. I also think it is a good idea that the lists be editable by some selected associate editors.

I could probably help with photos, and reports of museums and displays that I visit in my travels.

Saludos,

I really should read what I write before I click "submit". Oh well. I for one love the edit feature on this board! :D

I would also see an open edit option as a bad idea. I could see it starting some wars and opening the site up to the crap that is out on the net.

Thats atually something I was looking into years ago. Col, if you want to gather up a list of museums, sorted by state, I'll see about putting something together. I know Pat Carry could help in this regard.

This was posted on another thread...

If we could come up with a firm plan (one with assistant editors to help out Scott) then I would suggest it be different from the list provided above. The list would be grouped by, Continent, Country, Province/State/Territory. Each entry would include a musueum name, web address, link to a Google Map or Map Quest map, a short of list of planes (example: T-6, B-25, PT-22 and BT-13), and one or more "info" categories that might include notes to indicate if the entry is for a road side/pole mounted bird, or how help with directions, etc. Like Rob said in the other thread this would help to plan a vacation, or could be used something like a route planner when you need to go somewhere and want some distractions along the way. The idea is to let you know where the birds are, rather than passing through an area only to miss some you were not aware of. Any thoughts?

I can help with North Carolina as I did some traveling there recently. I could do southern California and Ontario as well. I can help with many others, but I would not have confirmed the existance of the sites in person.

P.S. Scott... I didn't get anywhere with the Navion list I promised you. I couldn't come up with enough info to make a substantial list. Bascially... I struct out. I am working on a list of the disposition of all Harvard 4s. I think that will be helpful to you and the registry when it is done.

This site http://www.aero-web.org/museums/museums.htm is one of the reasons why this project was suspended previously.

Good point, but with all that info it realy is the fire hose effect. This list also doesn't include the pole mounted/roadside warbirds. It also duplicates much information that could be found on museum websites, so why not just include a link, or leave it up to the user to Google it?

Like I said keep the list simple (4 or 5 categories per entry) and grouped by region, include both museums and roadside warbirds and you have something useful that doesn't already exist on the web.

It would also be good to make this a living project so that we could log in like we do for WIX and add/update entries. Are there programs available for things like this?

With all due respect to Aero-Web, I’ve never had success in getting them to correct stuff I’ve been involved in. I just checked again and see a physical address that has not been used since 1997 and a website link that should have been changed in 1998.

Good points, well if you guys can work together and get a list of museums with the catagories and such I will see about putting it in a usable format on the site.

Should be take it by State or Province and work in teams ?

I can try to cover NY or parts of it.

What information do we think should be included. Name Address, website, contact info, Aircraft, displays...

I like the map idea.

I'm still for giving what type of aircraft are at the location. That can be a big factor for me as to where I go and not go. Even if it's as basic as F4U, F6F, P-51..

I was just thinking about that this morning! Great minds think alike eh?

You could have a map where you could click on a specific area and you go to a page with a list of the museums. It would be something like Scott's Avenger walk-around experiment, except the picture would be a map.
